Watched this movie on Sunday with Maggie, Elva, and Fourmis. Actually I had no other choices, for the traffic jam made Fourmis and me late for "Charlie Wilson's War". No movies were available around that time except for "Jumper", but we were determined to watch any movie. Though reluctantly (because I found the trailer confusing and uninteresting,) I went in the theater with my friends, and saw this film.

The movie proved me right: "Jumper" is as worthless as "Poseidon (2006)". All four of us agreed that 210NTD and 1.5 hours were wasted on this film.

Let's start with the cast. Hayden Christensen, Samuel Jackson, Diane Lane, Jamie Bell (Remember "Billy Elliot?"). Pretty attractive, huh? Dont' get fooled by the cast list, because even good actors can't save a hollow, imcomplete, and loose-constructed story.

The story starts with the self-narration of the leading role: David Rice. He tells the audience when and how he discovered his brilliant ability of jumping through great distance to wherever he wants to go within a blink. Quite a boring background, isn't it?

See this: A loser gets pranked in front of the girl he's had a crush on for so many years. His mother left the family when he was little, and his dad was "no much of a Dad". Then when he was most desperate, he found himself rescued by some mysterious super power that seems to belong to himself. Doesn't this look like something everybody read in "Harry Potter" series?

What's more, for me, this movie should be prohibited from kids, esp. teenagers, who are in their cricial period of character development and values establishment. Why? It's obvious if you've seen this movie.

A 23-year-old adult, who has never earned a cent in his life, lives on robbing banks with his supernatural powers. This doesn't look right to parents, especially when all parents are trying to teach their children about honesty and diligence. Then, let's face that fact that David, the leading role, is an egocentric jerk towards those around him. See what he does to his Dad and Millie? He drags them into the trouble he's in, and wouldn't explain a word when asked for explanation. Surprising to me that Millie would stay with him in the end. Bad moral lesson: irresponsible jerk gets all he wants in the end.

Don't argue that he's from a broken family. The director took only a minute to describe his familial background, and to me, that doesn't make any excuse.

Well then, you may say that it's not a morally correct movie, that it's a science fiction film.
I'd say that it's still not good enough for a science fiction film. Allow me to quote from imdb user comments: "Sadly, the movie fails to build on that premise, and action sequences aside is quite boring. My friend fell asleep! There is no chemistry whatsoever between David and Milly, and their romantic relationship is unrealistic."

Without exciting action scenes, romantic relationship between leading roles that audience can identify with, concrete and convincing story line, how can I say that it's a successful movie?

As a conclusion, I just can't understand why "Jumper" became a blockbuster. And no praise would ever come out of my mouth towards it.
